Using The Weather Channel’s Immersive Mixed Reality (IMR), this project explores the science behind landslides and their growing impact on the communities most at risk from these sudden natural disasters. It educates users on the different types of landslides, the environmental and human factors that destabilize the ground, key risk indicators to consider, and how to prepare when an emergency strikes.

OBJECTIVE

This project aims to uncover the hidden dangers within familiar landscapes and visually explain the science behind landslides. Through a realistic, data-driven experience, users learn how heavy rainfall and rapid snowmelt destabilize hillsides, triggering fast-moving mudslides and large-scale ground failures capable of devastating communities and infrastructure. By breaking down the mechanics, types, and increasing frequency of landslides in a changing climate, the project empowers audiences to recognize risk, understand warning signs, and stay informed and prepared as extreme weather events become more common.
